Moonbathing is nothing new, but thanks to Kate crediting it as part of her ‘wellness’ routine, it’s piqued everyone’s interest.
Speaking to The Sunday Times, the supermodel said she enjoys moonbathing, an ayurvedic practice.
Like the better-known term ‘forest bathing’, in which you spend time in a forest and around trees, moonbathing refers to spending time out under the moon to absorb its energy.
It’s quite similar to star bathing – it can involve going for a walk in the moonlight, or sitting under the moon ideally without any light pollution affecting your view. It works best in a calm, restful place.
The practice can give you a better appreciation for nature and help ground you in a state of mindfulness.
Mark Westmoquette, an astrophysicist, zen teacher and author of Mindful Thoughts for Stargazers, previously told Metro.co.uk it can help you get a better night’s sleep due to its calming potential.
Speaking on star bathing, he said: ‘It simply means spending time under the stars and appreciating their beauty. It’s a celebration of the natural night time.’
One of the main benefits is that it allows us to ‘hit the pause button’, taking a moment to allow ourselves to ‘be awed’ by the natural world, as Mark explains.
We know that getting out in nature can improve mental health, and Mark says: ‘A growing body of research shows that experiencing awe (the feeling we get in the presence of something vast) leads to a wide range of benefits to our wellbeing, including improvements in mood, satisfaction with life, and generosity.’
Kate also said she uses the moonlight to cleanse and charge her crystals, with her favourites being rose quartz and melonite.
Moonbathing can be part of a spiritual practice, tied in with things like crystals and intention setting, or done simply as a hobby and calming ritual.
